ABOUT АКОS

Russian Association of Communications Consultancies
AKOS is one of Russia’s leading expert platforms that promotes the development of the communications and public relations industry.
The Association was established more than 25 years ago and today brings together the country’s most reputable communications agencies, consolidating their recognized expertise, experience and knowledge. AKOS’s primary objectives are to build a highly professional and transparent PR services industry, to support the quality growth of the Russian communications market in line with global trends, to establish high ethical standards, to develop PR education, and to form effective international partnerships in the field of communications.
AKOS implements progressive PR standards and regularly offers practice-oriented products to the market and the professional community (research, guidelines, regulations, instructions). It collects and promotes best PR and communications cases, organizes public discussions, participates in key industry and adjacent events, and draws media and public attention to the strategic role of communications.

AKOS cooperates with related expert platforms, regulators and government bodies to implement common approaches and joint projects, support and promote important industry initiatives, and discuss legislative proposals. The Association provides consulting services to state, public and commercial organizations.

AKOS is an active community of leading communications agencies that jointly analyze contemporary professional challenges and develop scenarios for rapid market- and society-oriented responses.

AKOS members take part in shaping the future of the communications industry by creating new rules and frames of reference. Through the efforts of its members, AKOS contributes to the development of various segments of the Russian and global markets as well as to sociocultural, educational and other public initiatives and projects.

To build expertise on the platform, AKOS has formed an ecosystem of Committees and Working Groups covering the main areas demanded by the communications market under current conditions (from advertising labeling of informational materials to communications analytics, digitization and AI).

The Association seeks to activate business activity, broadly promote the business and public interests of communications professionals, and develop targeted international contacts and relations.

To these ends, AKOS updated the concept and activity plan of its Committee on International Relations in 2025. The Committee set tasks to analyze the transformation of international PR, to develop practical ties in international markets for mutual benefit, to facilitate exchange of experience, knowledge, technologies and personnel with representatives of international PR communities, to foster mutual enrichment of ideas and innovative solutions, and to establish long-term relationships with relevant international associations.

AKOS established the international forum AKOS “Strategic Communications. Ideas & Insights” — the first industry event in Russia dedicated to discussing the current agenda and exchanging international experience in strategic communications. The forum’s mission is to institutionalize the communications industry as a key strategic management function and as a driver of socio-economic development at all levels.

The inaugural forum took place on 21 May 2025 in Moscow. The forum’s development of cross-sectoral and international cooperation in communications was supported by Russian federal authorities and public dialogue platforms (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation; Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation; the Expert Council for the Development of the Creative Economy under the State Duma Committee on Industrial Policy; and the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation), national and international development institutions (including the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the Centre for Strategic Research, and the Eurasian Rating Agency), and key specialist platforms and associations (the Coordinating Council of Communication Industries under the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, RASO, AKMR, AKAR, and the Association of Managers).

More than 100 speakers — communications experts from Russia, Brazil, India, China, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey — participated in the forum. The forum community includes communicators from BRICS, the SCO and the EAEU, representatives of professional communications associations, government bodies and regulators, heads of communications functions, PR/GR/IR/ESG directors of Russian and international companies, senior executives of marketing, advertising and PR agencies, leaders of resource NGOs and public organizations, communications experts, authors and promoters of professional standards, as well as students and young professionals in relevant fields.

The forum resolution is distributed to the forum’s principal partners, to the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, to the State Duma and the Federation Council, to relevant Russian ministries and agencies, to the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, to governments of friendly countries, to relevant UN agencies, to the CIS Executive Committee, to the executive bodies of BRICS, the SCO and the EAEU, to international professional communities and associations of friendly countries, to professional associations and communities in Russia’s communications sector, to business associations and communities, to regional press offices, and to academic and educational institutions in the field of communications, as well as to media outlets.
